Canvas of Care Series

Canvas of Care Series

Many faculty, staff, and students at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design are deeply committed to advancing physical and mental well-being through their teaching, research, creative practices, and community engagement. This shared dedication highlights how art, design, and scholarship can be powerful tools for fostering care, connection, and holistic health.

The Canvas of Care series, a collaboration between the Eskenazi School and the Eskenazi Museum of Art’s Arts-Based Wellness program, showcases how Eskenazi community members integrate wellness into their work. Through studio projects, community partnerships, and research exploring creativity, healing, and social well-being, the series highlights efforts that promote emotional resilience and a culture of care across IU.

Project Spotlight

Professor Hoa Vo

In Spring 2024, students in D375 reimagined the power of design through the creation of inclusive Therapeutic Art Studios—spaces where creativity becomes a catalyst for healing. Rooted in evidence-based design and inspired by art therapy traditions, the project empowered future designers to craft environments that support mental well-being, especially for marginalized communities. From immersive VR experiences to biophilic design, each studio was a sanctuary of expression, connection, and care.
